These are very interesting examples and study objects and I did learn much about early romanian postcards. I suppose that they occur rarely and that it is difficult to find them. I got none of them.

By the way, I show you three other examples of early postcards which were sent abroad in 1879 to Wien and Leipzig, 1880 to Budapest.

First P.C. - 1879 printings . The stamp - " Flat" printing ( not embossed ) , black on rose-lila kartonpapier ( with "teeth/perforations " on sides ), size : 155 x 101 mm .
As of 1879 printings it should be noted the missing text on P.C.'s bottom.

Cannot say anything about the other two P.C. as the bottom text is not readable. Anyway these are 1875-1878 printings

Dear 10 Parale,

I really would like to encourage you to look for such old postcards! They are not expensive at you can easily find them, f.e. at dealer's booths on international exhibtions. There is enough material around to form a nice collection soon, and it is fascinating and beautiful!

We know that "Michel" has a "Ganzsachenkatalog" for postal stationery. It Romanian section starts with P1 (= the first Postcard of Romania) from 1873. From then on Romania had new issues from time to time, so Michel catalogues 48 postcards until 1905, and other postal stationery like card-letters, wrappers, "Mandat postal", telegram-forms and so on.

Only one postal stationery-number of Romania is somewhat expensiv in "Michel", it is P 3 (the third postcard from 1873) with Euro 220 (used) (Catalogue 2001/2002). But most of the postal stationery 1870-1910 are priced below Euro 10 ! Therefore you can find a lot of material for "peanuts", even if some items are quite rare and hard-to-find.

The oldest postal stationery from Romania is not a postcard, but a wrapper. 1870 = S 1 (= "S" for "Streifband"). S 2 was issued one year later, 1871.

Herewith find an unused wrapper from 1871 (S 2). I like it very much.

This inverted center-stamp is a really great variety and there are many collectors searching for them. These varieties are the most popular for many, as they are so obvious!

Congratulations!

Dear March

this is a very nice wrapper, locally used from (and to) Bacau!

I herewith show you a unit of five wrappers used to send newspapers (?) from Bukarest to Vienna (in Austria).

The wrapper is shown: front- and backside

The cancellation shows a remarkable error: "29 OCT 809" which would read as 29th of October of 1809. This is not correct, of course, it should be 1909 (=> "909": last three figures in this cancellation"). This wrapper is catalogued as "S 8" in Michel (year of issue 1905). Currency indicated is "BAN" (instead of "BANI" at your wrapper S 4 of 1894/1896). - Regards Heinz

This us really a important error!

I can also show a nice error: 12th issue, 5 Bani green in a block of four, partially unperforated!

As I could not detect any watermark in the paper, it must be Michel no. 85.

Kind regards
Heinz
