Not sure what you mean with "the name". This post office was just called "Berlin 12". It was located in Goethestraße, near the railway station Zoologischer Garten, and doubled as a philatelic outlet. As such, it also provided special first day cancels like the one on your card, and yes, Goethestraße is in the former British sector. The post office and the outlet were closed in 2010, but in another thread ("Neuer Philatelieschalter Berlin Zoologischer Garten") it is said that a smaller philatelic outlet was opened nearby in Joachimsthaler Straße.

Many thanks Jan-Martin :)

As I saw on Wikipedia that British Sector was divided in several other sub-sectors (to say so) I thought that Post Office carried the name of one of these sub-sectors.

But now is clear. Tks again

Now I see what you mean.

Well, the district is Charlottenburg, which once upon a time was a city in its own right (in 1920 it became part of Berlin), and back then it would have been the post office "Charlottenburg something-or-other". Before postcodes were introduced on 23 March 1962, i.e. until 1 year and 1 week before the date of the postmark on your card, it was called "Berlin-Charlottenburg 2". Afterwards, numbers were used instead of district names.

At that time was the Brandenburg Gate located in Charlottenburg District ?

No,no: From the western side you could look to the Brandenburger Tor. The card seems to be a photography from the american sector.

Best regards

March,

I am not from Berlin and I have to correct myself: Charlottenburg was not American but British sector (ref. to Google).

Kauli as our specialist here might know more about the situation in Berlin after world war 2nd.

Kind regards
Stephan

Yes. British Sector. Tks :)

Indeed the photo was taken from West towards East Berlin. That's why and that sign with warning : Achtung ! You are leaving the West-Berlin

Fascinating post-war stories abt Brandenburg Tor.

The photographer must have stood near the edge of Tiergarten district which, just like Charlottenburg, once belonged to the British sector. The American sector consisted of the southern and south-western parts of Berlin. German Wikipedia has several useful maps in its article "Liste der Verwaltungsbezirke Berlins 1920–2000" which can help to work out to which district or sector some place (e.g. a post office) used to belong.

Thanks Jan-Martin. :)

In the meantime I came accross this maxicard made on 29.4.13 with a vintage post card having in right-hand bottom corner a text which confirm yours remark : The photographer must have stood near the edge of Tiergarten district.

All the best
