In 1999 the Romanian Poste Office issued this Postal Stationery(P.S.), with Code 156/99 , to honour the biggest stamp collector and researcher/expert of/on The Bull's Heads of Moldavia, FRITZ HEIMBUCHLER.

This P.S. with F.H's autograph is from my collection.

F.H. is the author of the paramount bilingual book : " Rumanien/Romania Die Ochsenkopfe der Moldau / The Bull's Heads of Moldavia, 1852-1862 ", Munich, 1994

Dear March

Fritz Heimbüchler indeed was (and still is) one of the very most important collectors and experts of Romanian philately. He was a great collector, gaining two Grand-Prix Awards at International stamp exhibitions. He was (and still is!) head of the study group "ARGE Rumänien" for some 40 (!) years. He is an expert, writing important books (three major works and dozens of short articles) and he was editor-in-chief of the "Rumäniensammler" (the paper of the ARGE Romania) for some 40 years. He is Fellow of the Royal Philatelic Society London and was invited to sign the Roll of Distinguished philatelists (RDP). He promoted Romanian philately for decades and he was responsible to a large extent that this classical (stamp-)country became one of the most popular (worldwide!) again, as it was in former days.

Fritz Heimbüchler now is more than 8o years old, but he still is head of the ARGE. I will see him again in September. His (last) Romania-collection was shown in the "Edition d'Or"-serie. He sold the main part of his collection in the last few years. But he still has important collections (also other contries).

Kind regards - Heinz

Dear Heinz

Thank you for your comments.

I was introduced to Fritz Heimbüchler by late Dr.Liviu N. Cristea ,opponent of Romanian Bolshevik regime in late '40, then Newsman at BBC - Romanian Section until his retirement when he moved over to Munchen where he had a weekly "Philatelic Hour" at Radio Free Europe- Romanian Section ( alias Radu Parvan )
Liviu N. Cristea was a great researcher and expert on Romanian Postal History in general, and on the Local & Foreign Posts in Romania in special.
In 1998 the RO's Post Office dedicated to him the below Postal Stationery ( Code 094/98) . It carries the postmark used by the Post Office during FIP Exhibition in Bucharest : " EFIRO 1998 "

Cheers

Dear March

Dr. Cristea was really a great philatelist! Some years older than Mr. Fritz Heimbüchler he lived in the same town and was a wonderful teacher to the younger of the both. Mr. Heimbüchler often gave expression of his admiration of the knowledge of this great philatelist!

I was happy enough to meet Mr. Cristea some times, mostly at the occasions of a "Symposium" of the ARGE Romania. When Dr. Cristea was still in good health he very much liked to meet other collectors of Romanian philately. Fortunately he had a long life. His contributions to the "Rumäniensammler" (the journal of the ARGE) were very valuable. He was a very friendly man and very helpful.

Dr. Cristea was very active some 50 years ago when he worked as a philatelic author (for example to the "Balasse Magazine"). I think he was glad to see how the philately of Romania became more and more popular at the end of the 20th century. - Greetings - Heinz
